The maintenance helper maintains equipment in the port facilities as directed by the maintenance supervisor, including cranes, forklifts, and manlifts.

Schedule

  • This is a full-time position on a 5/2 schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Essential Job Functions

The maintenance helper will

  • Display and encourage teamwork among employees and customers.
  • Maintain a positive working relationships with all employees and clients.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, clients, and members of management.
  • Promote the company in a positive light, both inside and outside of the workplace.
  • Operate in the company online maintenance program.
  • Operate a company-owned vehicle.
  • Operate company-owned heavy machinery.
  • Examine equipment for proper lubrication and fluids, replacing fluids and properly lubricating machinery when needed.
  • Possess a knowledge of electrical, fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic, brake, and other mechanical and automotive systems.
  • Change, oil, check/replace batteries, repair/change tires, tubes, and lubricants on equipment and machinery.
  • Examine protective guards, nuts and bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Assist in keeping the maintenance shop clean and in good working order.
  • Assist in other areas of the maintenance department when needed.

The maintenance helper reports to the maintenance supervisor.

QHSE Responsibilities

The maintenance helper will

  • Actively participate in company WISE program.
  • Act as a mentor per company mentoring and SSE programs.
  • Utilize Stop Work Authority when necessary.
  • Adhere to and comply with company policies, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Abide by, convey, and enforce all safety rules, including the wearing of PPE for oneself and others, including third-party personnel on-site at the facility.
  • Operate in the company management system (Unisea).
  • Obtain and maintain vaccinations to perform work on wastewater pumping systems.

Work Environment

The maintenance helper is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, electrical hazards, vibration noise, fumes, smoke, dust, gases, chemicals, and a variety of other physical conditions. The maintenance helper may be required to work alone and in congested areas or to perform work at an alternate location other than the port facility. The maintenance helper may also be subject to adverse weather conditions, including high winds, cold, and heat.

Physical Requirements

While performing job duties, the maintenance helper is required to stand, walk, sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; and taste and smell. The maintenance helper must occasionally lift or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements

The maintenance helper must have

  • A valid driver's license.
  • A valid TWIC card.
  • The ability to read and write in English.
  • Vocational education; high school, commercial or shop training; or technical school.
  • In-house and on-the-job training under the instruction of a qualified worker.
  • The ability to provide verifiable references of past work experience.
