The DP assurance technician inspects the as-built configuration of a vessel, comparing it with the engineering documents for the correct application.

Responsibility and Essential Functions

The DP assurance technician

  • Surveys, analyzes, inspects and troubleshoots vessels' DP systems, providing input for corrections for engineering, ease of operation, and recommendations for improvements.
  • Works with the ABS/USCG and third/party inspectors/clients to procure vessel documents, contractual requirements, and certificates as per vessel class for new vessels as well as the existing fleet.
  • Works with the technical team in verifying/producing operational and accurate/functional documents. Documental errors (prints) can be carried/passed from boat to boat if not corrected in the building stage.
  • Performs failure procedures to find acceptable results that fall within class requirements, capturing and documenting all vessel machinery/power generation, electrical sensors, and sub-mechanisms required in redundancy grouping to prove vessels class requirements and improve/correct shortcomings.
  • Works with company personnel and vendors to correct and deliver class-specific vessels for oilfield operations.
  • Performs initial proving trials, as well as annual trials, on DP-equipped vessels. The DP assurance technician also retests laid-up or upgraded DP and/or equipment added which can affect the original design of the vessel.
  • Finalizes all documents after the proving trial on new builds, including the FMEA document as per ABS Class requirements.
  • Provides the manager and coordinator of a vessel with the open issues after trials. These are then put on the Maintenance Morning Report (Sinex program) and after maintenance has had the issue repaired, returns to the vessel to witness the item and/or items have been repaired and function correctly. The DP assurance technician then issues a Close-Out Form to the vessel manager and coordinator showing items have been repaired and date the repair took place.
  • Must witness the verification of vessel modifications (for example: Rolls Royce Upgrades, perform upgrade testing, any and all upgrades to mechanical changes done on electronics pertaining to the DP Equipment).

Physical Demands

The DP assurance technician must be able to perform trials on vessels. Having vessel knowledge is needed in order to perform the necessary tests on the trials.

Travel

This position requires travel out of the country to perform trials on vessels working overseas.

Minimum Qualifications

The DP assurance technician must have

  • A related degree/certification (preferred).
  • Electrical/mechanical/piping knowledge and shipyard or vessel experience.

Like industry experience or training may substitute for education/qualifications.

  • DP assurance/RMC general manager
