The rigger is responsible for carrying out orders from the yard foreman and/or his designated crane operator. The duties include general upkeep and inspection of rigging gear. The rigger must be familiar with the use of all types of rigging hardware, slings and safety issues associated with rigging, lifting loads and lift planning.

Duties

The rigger will:

  • Perform the proper handling and lifting of rigging equipment.
  • Handle lines to moor vessels to wharves and dockside.
  • Assemble rigging to properly lift and move equipment or material on/off vessels and trucks.
  • Select wire rope, synthetic slings, shackles and other rigging gear according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attach and detach lifting equipment from the crane's hoist.
  • Possibly be designated as a signal person when hand signals are required to control operations.
  • Adhere to and comply with company policies, OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with training of SSE personnel as needed.
  • Perform any other additional duties that may be required or assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC card)
  • Due to high volume of applicants, 6 months' prior rigging experience is preferred but not required
  • High school diploma preferred but not required
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, background check and rigging class
  • Subject to random drug screening
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work

Compensation

  • $10.50-$12.00 hourly
  • Main schedule of 7 on, 7 off
  • 12-hour workdays, 84-hour work week
  • Meals provided during training days
