Facility Background

North American Shipbuilding (NAS) was founded in Larose, Louisiana, in 1974, and has built more specialized offshore vessels than any other shipyard in the world. This is the one of four shipyards that ECO owns and operates. Designing and constructing vessels only for ECO and affiliated companies, NAS built the first U.S. Antarctic icebreaking research vessel, the largest and most powerful anchor handling vessel in the U.S. fleet, the first dynamically positioned vessel in the U.S. fleet, the world's first floating production system installation vessel, and the largest water throw capacity vessel in the U.S. fleet. NAS consistently ranks among the finest shipyards in the world, currently employing over 750 in skilled positions. NAS has a formal welding training program and on-the-job apprenticeship training for all other trades. The shipyard's health and safety program is second to none, paying tens of thousands of dollars to shipyard workers in cash safety bonuses every quarter. NAS also provides an on-site housing facility, a medical clinic and a large, modern cafeteria to accommodate its workers.
