The crane operator operates traveling or stationary cranes to lift, move and position loads, such as the structural parts of ships or vessels, related machinery, equipment, products and materials, using hoisting attachments such as hooks, clamps, slings, an electro-magnet or bucket.
Duties
The crane operator will:
- Observe load hookup and determine safety of load.
- Manipulate or depress crane controls, such as pedals, levers and buttons, to regulate the speed and direction of the crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal or signal instructions.
- Generate a daily overhead crane report on all functions of cranes.
- Hold daily safety meetings and report with crew on potential accidents (a pre-job safety meeting).
- Ensure that all members of his/her crew and any other visitors to C-Port, Martin Terminal and Fourchon Heavy Lift wear their proper PPE.
- Utilize the Stop Work Authority when necessary.
The crane operator may also operate overhead cranes, other lifting equipment and other company vehicles.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC card)
- Due to high volume of applicants, 6 months' prior crane experience is preferred but not required
- High school diploma preferred but not required
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, background check and crane class
- Subject to random drug screening
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work
Compensation
- $17.50-$19.00 hourly
- Main schedule of 7 on, 7 off
- 12-hour workdays, 84-hour work week
