New Towing License Requirements

Effective May 21, 2004
The requirements for obtaining a new Towing License will change after May 21, 2004. Anyone wishing to obtain a Towing License/Endorsement can meet current requirements provided that they began service BEFORE May 21, 2001. If you did not begin service before May 21, 2001, you will have to meet the new requirements, which consist of obtaining an Apprentice Mate (Steersman) endorsement prior to obtaining a Mate or Master’s License.

If any of our bridge personnel on our AHTS don’t have a towing endorsement, then they need to get it before May 21, 2004.

You must provide the following:
1) An application, request a towing endorsement
2) A copy of your License (front and back)
3) A copy of your STCW-95 and MMD document (front and back)
4) A sea time letter with a minimum of 90 days of sea time on an AHTS or Tug prior to May 2001
5) A check or money order for $95.00 payable to U.S. Coast Guard

We cannot stress how important it is for our employees who meet the above requirements to take advantage of this window of opportunity before it closes on May 2004.

Also, this does not only pertain to our AHTS Crews, but to anyone who has sea time on a towing vessel prior to May 2001.

In Order to ensure that we capture all who the above applies to, please distribute the above to ALL vessels.
