The wiper is responsible for carrying out orders from the Captain, Chief Engineer, Assistant Engineer, or QMED. The wiper's duties include cleaning the engine room and all machinery. The wiper must be familiar with the use of hand tools and the machinery layout of the vessel.

Functions

  • Examines machinery for specified pressure and flow of lubricants
  • Fills oil cups on machinery with grease and lubricating oil, according to machinery lubrication instructions
  • Oils and greases moving parts, such as gears, shafts, and bearings of engines and auxiliary equipment used to propel maritime vessels
  • Reads pressure and temperature gauges and records data in engineering log
  • Assist the chief engineer, assistant engineer, or QMED in doing daily maintenance or repairs to vessel equipment
  • Cleans and paints the machinery space and all the machinery in it
  • Responsible for keeping all machinery spaces clean and tidy
  • May lubricate deck machinery when vessel is unloading cargo
  • Assist on deck with cargo handling operations
  • Assist in launching of survival craft during times of emergency
  • Assist to tie-up the vessel when needed
  • Performs any other additional duties that may be required or assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • valid USCG merchant mariner's document (z-card) with minimum endorsement of OS, Wiper, SD (FH)
  • valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC card)
  • due to high volume of applicants, 6 months prior vessel experience is preferred but not required
  • high school diploma preferred but not required
  • must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check and Safe Gulf class
  • subject to random drug screening
  • must be capable of working offshore in harsh weather environments for periods of 3 to 6 weeks
  • must have reliable transportation to and from work for crew changes
Compensation
  • based on employee's USCG documents and type of vessel
  • $180-$185 per day
  • main schedule of 28 on, 14 off
  • free USCG STCW and upgrade classes offered at our training facility
  • housing and meals provided during training or crew change days
  • travel pay based on direct distance from employee's residence to our main office
  • Comprehensive benefits package:
